The seminar will take place at 1pm & finish at 4pm it will be a GI seminar & cost is £15 for members & £25 for non members.

GROUND CONTROL 11/09/11

So sunday the 11th of september saw Ground Control back up in Manchester,It also saw the EKBJJ NORTH team back up there to compete.
We took 4 lads to compete Si Lee,Adam Kuleszka(AK),Andy Ward(EKBJJ NORTH) & Dan Tyas(Ekbjj Barnsley)
Andy fought first out of the 4 winning his first 2 matches with a GULLOTINE CHOKE his 3rd win was with POINTS & finally winning GOLD with his 3rd GULLOTINE of the day

Adam & Dan fought next with Adam winning his 1st macth on POINTS then lossing his 2nd match on POINTS
Dan lost his 1st match to a CHOKE but won his 2nd match with a sweet TRIANGLE CHOKE

Si fought last in a best of 3 match winning the 1st match with complete dominance on POPINTS then showing the same dominance in the 2nd match to take GOLD with a very strong KIMURA from side control

Everyone of the lads fought well & as always we are all proud to have them as team mates & friends

Monday nights class

Guys am really sorry about this but due to people not turning up to train at Rhino Pit Mma Ryan has closed the gym.this means there will be no EKBJJ NORTH classes there anymore :-( so until Jon's Gym is ready in rotherham there's no classes in rotherham at the minute.
if you wish to train on a Monday there's always EKBJJ North Derbyshire or on a Tuesday there's EKBJJ Barnsley.
EKBJJ NORTH is in Sheffield Wednesday & Friday.

MISSION SUBMISSION 2 31/07/11

Yesterday saw the EKBJJ NORTH team take a trip up to selby to compete at Mission Submission 2 a No-Gi grappling competition.
The team was made up of guys from EKBJJ NORTH, EKBJJ North Derbyshire & EKBJJ Barnsley.
Everyone who competed had trained really hard for the competition & it showed when they were on the mats.
It takes a lot of guts to compete & win, lose or draw we are proud of everyone who entered.
Out of the 8 guys who competed we came home with 1 GOLD, 2 SILVER'S & 1 BRONZE
The results are below.
On a final note I would personal like to thank my sponsor

Ashley Sabin(EKBJJ Barnsley) first round buy then lost in the 2nd round

Under 96kg -
Rob Ferrett(EKBJJ Barnsley) won 2 lost 1 (got Bronze)
Grant Hensby(EKBJJ Barnsley) won 1, got a buy then lost 1 (but got Silver)
Grant also moved up to the ADVANCED under 96kg but lost both his fights

EKBJJ INTERNATIONAL GATHERING & GRADUATION SEMINAR 25/26 JUNE 2011

This was a 2 event we're people from all the Association got together to train swop ideas make new friends & of course take as much knowledge from the main man himself Professor Eddie Kone.
The first day was all basic self-defense techniques(which everyone should work on) this got us all on the same page & was really helpful to refresh something's.
After the techniques we had time to spar, this is always fun putting what we know into practice. Day 1 finished with Eddie awarding 3 blue belts which were all well deserved.
Day 2 started with a quick recap of the self-defense for the warm up then we moved on to some advance guard passing techniques, again day 2 finished with sparring were everyone did really well.
To finish off the whole weekend Professor Eddie Kone handed stripes out to 4 white belts, 1 blue belt & 2 purple belts.
After this 3 more blue belts were handed out & to finish off myself(head coach of the north), Mick(Ireland's head coach) & James(coach of EKBJJ Essex) were all promoted to the rank of BROWN BELT.
All the promotions were well deserved & everyone has worked hard to achieve there new promotions.
I would like to thank Professor Eddie Kone for my promotion, also I would like to thank all the guys & girls who attended & made it such a awesome weekend & last but not least I would like to thank all the northern students who made it down this weekend.

I forgot to take pictures on the 1st day but took some on the 2nd so am sorry if ur not on any & am sorry if I've forgot anyone or anything am still on cloud 9 from the promotion.

GROUND CONTROL 21/22 of may

This weekend we took the EKBJJ NORTH team down to Ground Control in Birmingham day1 was the Gi comp which saw Danny Harding & Nick West compete. Danny had 3 flight's & submitted every opponent to take Gold.
Nick had 3 flight's winning his 1st with a choke,he lost his 2nd & 3rd but put up a good effort in both of those matches just missing out on bronze in his last match.
Day2 was the No-Gi comp witch saw Si Lee,Daniel Könecke & Tim Maclure
Si & Daniel both took Gold winning on points both controlled there opponents with patience & skill.Tim won his 1st fight 11 points to 5 points, he then lost the 2nd & 3rd also putting in a good effort in both & again just missing out on bronze.

Well done to all of the Team who competed this weekend win lose or draw it takes guts to get on the mats & compete

EKBJJ NORTH-Eddie kone seminar 10/04/11

This weekend saw Professor Eddie Kone back up north to see his northern branch of the EKBJJ association.
The seminar started with some grip fighting warm up drills & some take down drills, Eddie then took it to the ground were we worked on passing the guard & pressure.
After a short Q & A we sparred & I got chance to roll with Eddie(which I always enjoy) :-)
The seminar ended with some belt promotions which were all well deserved :-)
Luke Ager & Dan Könecke were promoted to BLUE BELT well done guys :-)
Charlie Farley, Stephen Lee & Doug Mcgraghan were promoted to PURPLE BELT well done guys :-)

Big thanx to Carl Fisher from Jiu-Jitsu Style magazine for coming to the seminar, it's always good to see Carl :-)

Thanx again to Eddie for coming & sharing his BJJ knowledge :-)

A look back on 2010

2010 Was a good year for EKBJJ NORTH :-) I think it put us on the map! we hit the competitions hard & somebody came home with a medal evertime :-) we did the Welsh,British & Manchester bjj open we also did ground control as well & win, lose or draw am proud of all the team :-) We did some M.M.A fights as well last year & some guys won & some guys lost but it takes a lot of guts to get in a ring/cage & put it all on the line & for that am very proud of everyone :-).
There was some belt changes last year to & this means some hard work a head but you guys will in enjoy your new path with your new belt :-) some guys may think they got there belt to early but am sure Eddie & myself made the right discussion & you guys who it's took a long time to get there i no it's hard but keep pushing & you'll get to your goals in the end :-)
Anyway i wish each & everyone of you all the best for 2011 & the team can only get bigger & stronger :-)
i see good things this year for EKBJJ NORTH :-)

Eddie Kone seminar November 2010

Yesterday(28/11/10) saw head coach professor Eddie Kone & Jonas come & visit the northern branch of his association EKBJJ NORTH,the seminar was a big success as all ways with 28/30 guys & gals in attendance.The seminar covered the half guard & various off shoots.Everyone enjoyed the day & to top the day off some promotions were handed out :-)
my Assistant coach Jonathan keeley was awarded his purple belt :-)
Also student Lee Mapley was awarded his purple belt :-)
Melanie Doran & Craig Taylor were awarded there blue belts :-)

These promotions are well earned & am very proud to have you all in our family :-)
keep training hard guys & we'll c you all next time :-)

GROUND CONTROL 14/11/10

Yesterday(14/11/10) saw us take the EKBJJ NORTH team to ground control at nottingham. We had good success with the team earning 1 gold,2 silver & 1 bronze :-)
Am very proud of everyone who entered from our team :-) It takes alot to enter a compilation of any description so in my eyes everyone who gets on a mat or in a ring/cage is a winner :-)

Lloyd cooper has trained with EKBJJ NORTH from the beginning & has had success in no-gi grappling comps, Gi inter club comps & was awarded his blue belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu this year from professor Eddie Kone & myself("MONKEY").Lloyd has always been a strong part of our team & when he left for uni in Manchester he went to train with TEAM NOMAD under pro mma fighter ROSI SEXTON.
This weekend(26.9.10) saw Lloyd have his 1st semi pro mma fight.
Lloyd was fighting at 75kg but weighed in at 73.4kg. Lloyd's opponent Paul Birkhead had a record of 1-0-0.
Lloyd fighting out of EKBJJ NORTH/TEAM NOMAD finished the fight quick with a rolling knee bar in 1min & 43sec of the 1st round.
Lloyd's record is now 1-0-0
well done to Lloyd & a big thanx to pro fighters Rosi Sexton & Gaz pilot for cornering & looking after Lloyd while he's in Manchester.
A big thanx to everyone who helped Lloyd & put him through his paces.
I can't wait to see more from Lloyd :-) well done again fella.

ITALO FERREIRA seminar

yesterday saw me("MONKEY" ) & some of the guys from EKBJJ NORTH go & train with BLACK BELT italo Ferreira at sheffield martial arts center. big thanx to italo Ferreira & his head coach Mark Hayes for making me & the team welcome :-)
this is the third time I've trained with italo & as with the previous times the techniques were good :-)
we started in north south & moved on to butterfly guard & finished in side control. after the techniques we moved on to sparing.it was a good standard from the white & the blue belts :-) & i enjoyed rolling with everyone.
the end of the seminar saw one of Mark Hayes female students Melissa churchill awarded her blue belt from italo :-)
thanx to everyone at sheffield martial arts center for making the EKBJJ NORTH team feel welcome, see you next time :-)

Dew to the influx of new students in the gym recently we've decided to add a fundamentals/beginners class.
These classes will b held on a Monday & Friday at 7pm until 8pm,The classes will focus on the basics like passing guard,posture,how to get up in base & much more.

The classes are open to all new students & existing students alike,you will be aloud to join the main class after 3 months of training with us or if you're invited to.

The main class will now run from 8pm until 10pm anyone who has being training 3 months or longer is welcome to this class.
Classes are open to both male & female students

TIME CHANGE

EKBJJ CUP/MANCHESTER OPEN BJJ COMP

Sorry it's took so long guy's to put this up.
Anyway here go's, the weekend of the 12/13th of june saw EKBJJ NORTH hold the 1st EKBJJ CUP. Day 1 was a seminar with head coach of the association PROFESSOR EDDIE KONE, a black belt under the legendary ROYLER GRACIE.
Even though Eddie was injured he did an awesome seminar :)
After the seminar we had some M.M.A bouts, all who competed fought like pros with some of the guy's only being asked to fight earlier that day :) Well done everyone.

Day 2 saw the EKBJJ CUP inter club bjj comp. Again, well done to everyone who competed - there were some really good fights to watch and a high standed of bjj was shown :) After the comp the were a few promitions handed out. NICKY PITTS, LLYOD COOPER and MARTIN BENTLEY were all awarded their blue belts & VIKING WONG was awarded 2 stripes on his blue belt and last but not least, GREG RAPER was awarded a stripe on his white belt.

The 20th of june saw the EKBJJ NORTH team travel up to MANCHESTER for the 2010 MANCHESTER OPEN BJJ COMP. It was an awesome day as we all had fun and met some great people.

Unfortunately CRAIG TAYLOR and MARTIN BENTLEY lost ther 1st fights, so did not have anymore, but both of them put in a good effort :).

DANNY TAYLOR smashed his 1st two opponents. In the 1st he was 12 points up and finished with a choke. In the 2nd he was 7 points up and finished the guy off with an armbar. He lost in the final to an armbar, but brought home SILVER. Well done danny :)

As for me (MONKEY), I lost on points but put up a good fight and brought home SILVER.

Well done to everyone who competed, it takes guts to step on to the mats or in the ring :)

EKBJJ CUP

Next weekend is the EKBJJ CUP guy's
It'll be held over two day's(12/13th june).
day 1 will be the seminar(1pm start) & then m.m.a fight's which will be straight after the seminar,there will also be a BBQ, there will be a small fee for food :)
day 2 will be the competition(12pm start)

cost is £25.00 for the full weekend
or £15.00 for members & £25.00 for non-members if you only wish to take part in the seminar.

i hope to see you all on the mats next weekend :)

sunday the 2nd of may saw head coach of EKBJJ NORTH mark "monkey" bottom go & teach a seminar at DONCASTER FIGHT CLUB M.M.A.
the seminar started with mark teaching a gaurd pass then moved on to an armbar from gaurd & from that to a standing gaurd pass which led to a replacing gaurd technique, & to finish off a checky GI choke.
we then moved on to some rolling which for the first half mark had the guys roll with there eye's closed,this was to slow the guys down & get them thinking more.
the seminar was ended with some well deserved promotions :)
greg letch & nick slack both got 2 stripes on there white belts.
robin robson,john smithard & ryan bevan all got 1 stripe on there white belts.

well done guys keep up the hard work :)

This weekend just gone(11/04/10) saw Eddie Kone come up north to see all of us at EKBJJ NORTH :)
it was an awesome seminar which focused on the AMERICANA.the seminar ended with some sparring & after that Eddie awarded some promotions :)
DANNY TUNNARD was awarded his 1st stripe on his white belt
SI LEE was awarded 2 stripes on his white belt

JON KEELEY was awarded 2 stripes on his blue belt
MARK BOTTOM(ME) was awarded 2 stripes on his purple belt

we also had 2 guys move up a belt colour :)

all promoitions were well deserved :)

after the seminar we went for food :) it was great to see Eddie again & can't wait for the next seminar :)

BRITISH OPEN BJJ 2010

this weekend saw 3 of our team go to the british open bjj 2010.daniel taylor & martin bentley went down on the sat(27th) daniel lost his match but big respect for going & represnting,martin W1/L1 & did a great job for his 1st compition & again big respect for going & represnting EKBJJ NORTH.
sun(28th) saw assistant coach jonathan keeley go & compete,this was his 3rd comp in 4 week's & having took silver in the welsh open bjj 2010 then joint bronze in the Abu Dhabi pro world trails went to the british open bjj 2010 & took GOLD.
big well done to the guys & big respect for represnting EKBJJ NORTH :)

Abu Dhabi Pro European Trials

This weekend(march 20th) see's assistant coach john keeley(blue belt) head off to belgium to compete in the Abu Dhabi trials.he'll be putting his skills against some of Europe's top super super heavey wieghts.john is one of our top super super heavey wieghts and has a great jiu jitsu game.

WELSH OPEN 2010 RESULTS

On the 7th of march(2010) i took the EKBJJ NORTH team down to wales.this was the frist gi compition for the team & was also the frist time i'd(monkey) competed for five years in the gi.it was a great weekend with the team earning 1 gold & 2 silver medals,the team also came 6th in the team rankings.
am very pleased with all of the team & hope this is a taste of things to come for the EKBJJ NORTH team.

Today(28/2/10)Eddie Kone come to teach a seminar/focus group.we work on the gaurd & other bits to,the seminar ended with some rolling wicth was fun :)

Nicky pitts got his 2nd stripe on his white belt,Martin Bentley & Jamie Storey got there 1st stripe on there white belt
& after nearly 2yrs Winston Waite was awarded his blue belt.

today(17.01.10)we had Eddie Kone up for a seminar/focus group.It was a great seminar covering the mount & working on the more in depth things surrounding the mount.After drilling the techniques we had a chance to do some sparring.At the end of the seminar promotions some were handed out to the following members: Mark Ellis was awarded 3 stripes on his blue belt,Stephen Lee a.k.a Def was awarded 2 stripes on his blue belt & Simon Shaw was awarded his 4th stripe on his white belt.Well done guys keep up the hard work :)

reflecting on 2009

2009 has been a mad year for me,it's had it's up's & down's.but through it all bjj has been there for me :)
i had a hard start to 2009 having lost my last m.m.a fight in dec 2008 i decided to pack m.m.a in for 2009 & concentrate on my bjj.doing this really payed off for me as in june i got my purple belt :) about a month later i became head coach of EKBJJ NORTH & eddie took me under his wing.since reciving my purple belt i've worked really hard & with eddie's teaching i hope that 2010 will bring lot's of good thing's.as i await the start of 2010 i prepare myself mentaly for when the new year come's i'll be cutting weight & prepareing for my year of competing in both bjj & m.m.a compitions.i hope i'll do well both for myself & EKBJJ NORTH.
i'll keep posting my progress & let you know how thing's are going.

Well dun to everyone who competed yesterday at gound control, the team brought home 1 gold(Lloyd Cooper ) & 2 bronze (Charlie Farley & Jamie story) it was an awsome day with the team achieving 3 more wins in there fights.there was also a couple of loss dew to points & submission. This was the first time some of the team had competed so it was a great day of learning for all of us.
